Create a Spooky Halloween Scene

Recommended Age Group: 3 years +

Materials Required:

  • Black Construction Paper
  • Crayons
  • Cotton Balls
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Googly Eyes (white eyes with black rolling pupils)
  • Haunted House Printout

Instructions:
Print out the haunted house found here. Then carefully cut it out so that you have only the outline of the house without the extra white space around the edges. Then even more carefully, cut the windows and doors along the darker lines so that they open like shutters and double doors, but are still connected on the correct sides.

Glue the haunted house to the construction paper. Place it near the bottom, but leave room for the ground if you’d like. Allow the glue to dry.

Take a few cotton balls and carefully stretch them out so that they are longer, thinner versions of themselves. Paste the stretched balls onto the black paper around the outside of the house. Then glue a pair of eyes onto each cotton ball and you have your ghosts.

Now work with your crayons to compete the rest of the scene. Use light colors such as light grey and white so that the pictures pop off the black paper. Draw ghosts and spider webs inside the windows for a spooky surprise when they are opened. Draw a monster of your choosing inside the front door. Put a few pumpkins around and in windows. You can use googly eyes on your drawings as well.

Color the house itself and add any trees or background you’d like. Then, when there is something spooky hiding in each window and behind the door, the house it colored, the background is complete and your ghosts are floating in the sky, your spooky scene is complete!
