Marble Painting

Recommended Age Group: 18 Months +

Materials Required:

  • Clean and Empty Coffee Can with Lid
  • White Paper (or any other color)
  • 3-5 Marbles
  • Poster Paint

Instructions:
Toddlers love to paint and they love to shake things that make noise. Combine two of their favorite activities in a single craft!

Line the inside of the coffee can with the blank paper of any color. Then dip a marble into the paint. This can be messy, so be prepared with a wet washcloth for drips and spills. Place the marble into the can. Repeat with your other marbles and different colors of paint.

Once all the marbles and paint are inside the can, put the lid on the can and hand it to your child. Let your child shake it vigorously for as long as she thinks is necessary. Only when the painting, i.e. shaking, is done, carefully open the lid of the coffee can and pull out the paper.

Admire your painting with your child. If you feel it needs a bit more, dip your marbles again, drop them back into the can and continue your shaking.

Marble paintings are excellent as framed artwork in children’s rooms or a family room. Have your child create a series of pictures with the same colors to create a unified collection. Or, if your child wants to try something new and exciting, put black paper in the can and purchase glow in the dark paints or special neon paints that show up well on black.
