Holiday Candle Ring

Recommended Age Group: 3 years +

Materials Required:

  • Styrofoam Ring (3-4”)
  • Small Marshmallows
  • Toothpicks
  • Black Marker
  • Red Felt
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Spray Snow or Flocking
  • Green Ribbon

Instructions:

Make a fun candle ring this holiday season with the help of your child.

Take the red felt and roughly measure the length of the felt needed to wrap completely around the full exterior of the Styrofoam ring. Cut away excess and wrap the felt around the ring with the edges slightly overlapping on the inside of the ring. Before gluing the felt into place, be sure you trim up edges now that you have exact measurements

Glue the felt into place carefully with the seam inside the ring. Allow the glue to dry.

Now, create a stack of marshmallows. Use two or three small marshmallows placed directly on top of each other. You’ve created a snowman. Thread the marshmallows onto a toothpick – you may need to use two to be sure the marshmallows are secure. Then carefully push the end of the toothpick into the Styrofoam ring through the felt. You’ve just created and placed your first snowman onto the candle ring.

Create as many snowmen as you like, but do at least three or four so that there are plenty evenly spaced around the ring.

With the black marker, draw eyes and mouths on the snowmen.

Cut the green ribbon into short strips. Secure a strip of green ribbon using glue around the neck of each snowman as a scarf.

Finally, lightly spray the top of the candle ring with the canned snow to create a truly festive holiday feel. This should be done by a parent but supervised by your child. Have you child instruct in how much snow should be sprayed where.

Allow the candle ring to dry completely – the snow may take awhile. Then find a large Christmas candle to proudly display inside the ring and celebrate the season.
